Week 4 - Night Prayer - Day of the Divine Will

G. Oh God, come to reign in us.

E. Lord, let your Will come quickly.

Glory be to the Father...

HYMN Vol. XXXV, December 21, 1937

What a happy lot
it is to live in the Kingdom of your Will!
There can be no greater fortune,
neither in heaven nor on earth!

But how can it ever come to reign,
if sin and evil are rampant enough to horrify anyone?

Only your divine power,
with one of your greatest wonders,
will succeed in doing it.
Then your Divine Will will reign
on earth as it does in heaven! Amen.

Ant. The creature’s activity in the unity of the light of the Supreme Will becomes light.

Psalm Vol. XVIII, December 25, 1925

How beautiful is the activity of the soul in my Will!
Its act is joined to that one act of its Creator
which does not know a succession of acts
because the eternal light is not divisible.
And if it could be divided – but this can never be –
the divided part would become darkness.

So, the divine act,
being the light of all that the soul does,
forms a single act of it.
Therefore, by operating in the light of my Will,
the soul unites itself to that one act of its Creator,
and takes its place
in the realm of the light of eternity.

So you can’t see your acts
in the part of light where you did them,
nor where they are,
because it is impossible for the creature
to traverse all the eternal light of God.
But it knows for sure that its act is in the light,
and that it takes its place
in the past, in the present and in the future.

See, even the sun, being the image
and the shadow of the divine light,
has this property in part.

Suppose you were to work right there,
where the sun extends its sunlight.
You see its light
in front, above and behind you,
to your left and your right.

Then, if you wanted to see which part of the light
of the sun it was that surrounded you,
you wouldn’t be able to find it or distinguish it,
you would only be able to say
that its light was certainly over you.

Now, that light, which existed from the first instant
the sun was created, still is and will be.
If your act could convert itself into sunlight –
just as it does convert into divine light –
would you be able to find your particle of light,
and the light which had been given to you by the sun
to make you act?

Certainly no. But still you know
that an act came forth from you
which has been incorporated
into the light of the sun.

Glory be to the Father…

Ant. The creature’s activity in the unity of the light of the Supreme Will becomes light.

SHORT READING Vol. XVIII, December 25, 1925

“As the heavenly Creator sees the soul in his Will, he takes it in his arms, and putting it on his lap, he makes it act with his own hands and with the power of that Fiat with which all things were made. He makes all his reflections descend upon the creature to give it the likeness of his own activity. That is why the creature’s activity become light, unites with that one act of its Creator, and establishes itself as eternal glory and continuous praise of its Creator.”

RESPONSORIAL Vol. XXXVI, November 6, 1938

G. The acts done in my Will *unite the times and form a single act.

E. The acts done in my Will unite the times and form a single act.

G. They are so fused together, that while they are countless,

E. they unite the times and form a single act.

G. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

E. The acts done in my Will unite the times and form a single act.

Ant. Blessed is the soul that lives in the Divine Will; all generations will call it blessed!

Canticle (Spiritual testament of Luisa)

Ant. Blessed is the soul that lives in the Divine Will; all generations will call it blessed!

PRAYER
O Lord, transform our souls into suns of divine light so that everyone and everything may be consumed in the unity of the light of your Will, for the eternal glory and continuous praise of your supreme majesty. You live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

May the Lord put an end to the night of the human will, and let us rest in the divine. Amen.
